Flowdreams Landscapes

Anu Malhotra’s Flowdreams Landscape Series (Paintings) is not pure abstraction. The artist leaves behind hints of what inspired her when she worked on a particular piece of art. In the truest sense, her Flowdreams art works are an impressionistic palette.

These original art works  have the power to transform a space, opening a window onto distant landscapes – beaches, mountains and waterscapes that are not entirely of this world.

Anu pours paints on a canvas, allowing them to run free and wild. Her colours are like rivers charting a Himalayan course as they stream, collide, surge, now a powerful current, the next all foam and bubbles. The undercurrents churn up new hues as they merge and new palettes are born.

The artist wields neither brush, nor knife, guiding the flow of paints by tilting the canvas in various directions and sometimes using her hands. Layer by layer, like pouring magma, she builds up an almost corporeal structure for the paintings, thickening the pigments to allow them texture and a physicality that is almost sculptural.

There are hints of her sources of inspiration, clues that tease and beguile. Is that a sunrise or a golden orb melting into its own colour? Is that a forest or a viridescent dream? A universe underwater? Surely, this must be a landscape? Or multi-limbed mythical figures? The Flowdreams Landscape paintings are like a dreamlike kaleidoscope – an evocation of remembered images, fleeting fragments of a half-forgotten dreams.

“If a painting was a hormone, hers would be pure testosterone. These are works of mighty seduction. They stimulate the senses, inflame them. They are symbols of a grand passion. “
